We look forward to seeing you at our large group meeting on December 10th. The meeting will be from 1:00-3:00 at St. Cecilia Hall. We will have an Advent themed afternoon and Father Estrella will speak on one of the Saints. Lunch will be provided!
Across every group within the Church, small faith groups are not only popular but a significant part in helping people, of all ages, grow in their faith and their sense of community. Our approach for Youth Ministry at St. Patrick Church is based on a book entitled The Art of Forming Young Disciples. This book highlights the need for our young people to not only have peer groups of faith but also the need for an array of relationships with people of faith. With the guidance of their group leaders, they have the freedom to explore their faith and our goal is for small groups to meet every other week.
The other weeks will be a large group setting to create a time for greater socialization, spiritual activities and other activities as well. The larger group setting will focus on the lives of the saints. When we think of theologians, the great thinkers of the Church come to mind, but every saint’s life is a story of how we respond to God’s grace. Each saint is a “theologian,” even if he or she never wrote or read a book of theology. After a period of fellowship, the teens gather for an opening prayer, a lesson on the lives of the saints and then more time for prayer and fellowship. Each meeting has a different guest speaker who presents on a saint that has impacted their faith, sometimes the teens themselves present on their saint. Since teens join youth ministry after Confirmation, this provides continuity. Our large group will be part of a larger youth movement called “Dead Theologians Society” or DTS. There will also be times for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Confessions and pastoral needs of our youth.
Our large group meetings meetings are based on The Dead Theologian Society Program. DTS is a youth ministry program dedicated to enriching the faith of young Catholics through the lost art of storytelling..

"As a 16 year old, I can say that this book really hit home on what it means to be a teenager. Recently I've been talking with my parents about youth ministry a lot, trying to pinpoint the disconnect between youth groups/the faith formation classes and true, lasting discipleship."
